Pu'er coffee beans are celebrated for their exceptional quality, unique flavors, and the rich cultural heritage behind their production. The journey of coffee from farm to cup involves several stages, each requiring specific equipment and materials. Here's an overview of the process and the tools used at each step:
Welcome and introduction | 10 min.
Walk into the farms while getting the first insight into the local coffee culture together with our local farmer.
Hand-picking | 20 min.
Take baskets or bags for selective picking of ripe cherries under the guidance of the farm owner.
Processing (wet/dry processing) | 30 min.
Wet Processing (for washed coffee):
- Pulping Machine: Removes the outer skin of the coffee cherry.
- Fermentation Tanks: For fermenting the beans to remove mucilage.
- Washing Channels: To clean the beans after fermentation.
- Drying Equipment:
- Raised drying beds or patios for sun-drying.
- Mechanical dryers for consistent drying in humid climates.
Dry Processing (for natural coffee):
- Drying Beds or Patios: For sun-drying the whole cherries.
- Rakes or Turners: To ensure even drying.
Milling and Sorting | 20 min.
Removes the dried parchment layer from the beans. Sieves and screens for size grading. Color sorters or manual sorting tables to remove defective beans.
Roasting | 10 min.
- Coffee Roaster: Drum roasters or air roasters to roast green coffee beans.
- Cooling Trays: To cool the beans quickly after roasting.
- Storage Containers: Airtight containers to preserve freshness.
Grinding | 20 min.
Burr or blade grinders to grind roasted beans to the desired consistency (coarse, medium, or fine).
Brewing | 30 min.
- Drip Coffee Maker: For classic drip coffee.
