Cultural Background
Botanical printing originated in China 4,500 years ago. Over time, this craft has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage. In parallel, the Bulang ethnic group of Jingmai Mountain is renowned for its intricate handwoven textiles, featuring unique patterns and natural dyes passed down through generations. Botanical hammer-dyeing is a unique natural dyeing technique, where plant pigments are transferred onto fabric through physical pressing, preserving their original colors, shapes, and vein textures. Though it may seem simple, this art form carries deep cultural and spiritual significance.

The process involves fixing, arranging, and hammering the plants onto fabric. However, capturing the delicate shapes, colors, and textures requires creativity and an appreciation for nature’s beauty—making it a truly immersive experience.
