Pu'er tea originates from Yunnan, a province with a tea heritage spanning centuries. Known for its unique fermentation process, Pu'er tea has played a key role in Chinese tea culture and trade. The region’s ancient tea trees and diverse climate contribute to its distinct earthy flavor and aging potential.

Workshop Process Overview

Tea Picking 采茶 | 1h

  • Walk to the tea plantation (10-15 minutes).
  • Hand-pick premium large-leaf tea buds from Yunnan’s renowned tea trees.
  • Learn about different tea varieties, optimal picking techniques, and the best parts of the tea plant for harvesting.
  • Return to the tea workshop (10-15 minutes).

Tea Frying 炒茶 | 10-15min

  • Process freshly picked leaves using the ‘Shaqing’ (kill-green) method to preserve the tea’s flavor and aroma.
  • Learn about the purpose and techniques of frying in Pu’er tea production.
  • Hands-on experience in pan-frying tea leaves.

Tea Rolling 揉茶 | 5-10min

  • Use traditional heritage tools to knead and shape the tea leaves.
  • Understand the importance of rolling and how it enhances the tea’s taste and texture.
  • Guided hands-on experience with historical tools.

Tea Drying 干茶 | 30min

  • Evenly spread the rolled tea leaves in a drying basket for moisture removal.
  • Learn about the drying process and its role in flavor development.

Tea Collection & Packaging | 30-40min

  • Gather the dried loose tea leaves and prepare them for the next stage.
  • Experience the art of pressing Pu'er tea cakes:
    • Steaming the tea leaves (5-10 minutes).
    • Molding and shaping the tea cake (15-30 minutes).
  • Design and customize your own Pu'er tea packaging.
  • Finalize and pack your handcrafted Pu'er tea, ready to take home.
